Wow the Winter months can be brutal and we’ve been hit pretty hard the last couple of weeks with shockingly cold temperatures and/or endless amounts of rain! It’s easy to feel like it’s never going to be warm or dry again, and make us feel utterly miserable! Well, we’re here to give you some ideas to keep your positive energy strong or at least get your positive back (if it’s already lessening).

Stay Positive.jpg

Yes – we know working out in the Winter feels like the hardest thing to do, because of the weather, but the weather is no longer an excuse. Especially when it’s never been so easy to workout in your own home. We posted some circuit ideas you can do at home and you just need to move for a small amount of time. It will drastically change your mood – exercise produces endorphins, endorphins make you happy, and it’s super hard to be negative when you’re feeling happy!

Make Sure You Have Fun

Just because the weather sucks and it gets dark so early, doesn’t mean you must stay at home and feel miserable! Carve out some time for you to do something you really enjoy, and brings you happiness. Maybe your favourite thing to do is play tennis, so hunt out some indoor clubs, or shop for cute new outfits for your Spring / Summer season. Love to go to museums, look up the new exhibits and add it into your calendar! Whatever it is that YOU enjoy doing, make sure you add it into your schedule somewhere. This will again, make you feel good, and when you’re feeling good, it’s way easier to be positive

Surround Yourself With Positive People

Energy attracts energy, meaning if the people around you are positive, it’s highly more likely that YOU’LL feel more positive! Check the language of the people you spend most your time with, are they making it harder for you to stay positive? Without any comment or judgement, just make yourself aware. We aren’t suggesting you cut everyone you know out of your life, leaving you alone – that’s not going to help anything, but instead just practice a form of selective hearing. Listen to only anything positive they have to say, and lessen your exposure to their negativity!

Create an affirmation or mantra

We can’t tell you how great these are!! Controlling your mindset is key to keeping a positive mental attitude, and having a “go to” mantra or affirmation is a great way to do that.

A mantra is usually a word or two words that you can meditate on or when you think about them, your mindset changes from one of negative, fearful, anxious etc, to calm, positive, or optimistic. Words like Love or Kindness could remind you to come from a loving place when dealing with others, or to love yourself, remind you that you are love, while kindness could remind you to be kind to yourself, others etc. Positive affirmations can be used to re-program your thought patterns and change the way you think and feel about things. They are short positive statements that can help you focus on goals, get rid of negative, self-defeating beliefs and program your subconscious mind. Eat Your Way Upbeat

When it’s cold out, it’s easier to opt for comfort foods, but they can mess your blood sugard up leaving you feeling cranky and tired. However, some comfort foods can double as healthy pick-me-ups, especially if they contain mood-boosting nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, good carbohydrates (think whole grains and vegetables), protein, and B vitamins. Why not reach for the porridge/oatmeal on those cold mornings, and opt for omega-3 rich salmon in the oven at night. You’ll be smiling your way through the day, even if it is spent shoveling the driveway!
