You've been longing for your bed all day, when it's finally time to fall asleep you're wide awake. Your mind going in every direction possible and there you lay staring at the ceiling, frustrated. Instead of tossing and turning for the next three hours, why not try one of the following:

7 Soothing Things To Do When You Can't Sleep

CHANGE INTO COMFY PJ'S

Make sleeping the comfiest experience possible. So get into those cotton pj's and stay clear of those synthetic fabrics and itchy tags. 

MAKE SOME CAMOMILE TEA

According to research drinking tea is associated with an increase of glycine,  a chemical that relaxes nerves and muscles and acts as a mild sedative, allowing you to drift off to sleep easily. 

PUT ON SOCKS

Not quite the sexiest of things but having warm feet seems to result in falling asleep. Heating cold feet causes vasodilation—dilation of the blood vessels—which may tell the brain that it is bedtime. So, sexy or not, it might be worth a try if you're having trouble falling asleep. 

SET YOUR THERMOSTAT TO BETWEEN 16C - 20C
(Or 62F - 68F) 

According to science, keeping the room around this temperature is perfect sleeping conditions. So, adjust accordingly. 

READ A BOOK

The act of reading a book can clear your mind and prepare the body for sleep. So, why not pick up a book while you're sipping on your camomile tea. 

HIDE YOUR ALARM CLOCK

When you're struggling to sleep, the last thing you want to do is be reminded of how little time there is until you have to get up. It will only leave you more frustrated and less likely for you to fall back to sleep. Hiding the clock will hopefully allow you to relax a little and eventually drift off to sleep.

GO FOR A WALK

We're not encouraging you to go outside, instead take a few steps around the house for 5-10 minutes. This might help expel any lingering energy that’s keeping you awake.
